Fall Campout is the first chance for the new and old students to bond and learn in an inviting outdoor setting. This year Open Classroom went to Carpinteria State Beach. This venue offers a large group campground with adjacent Chumash Native themed playground and multiple outdoor learning areas including wetlands, seal preserve, tide pools, natural tar seep, wildlife, history museum and, of course, the beach all within walking distance. Students were given a learning “Passport” as they got on the bus to fill out with their observations during the trip. As with all Open Classroom activities, family and siblings are encouraged to attend. Families tent camped for two nights with meals prepared in a group “kitchen” where parents take turns cooking for everyone.
